We Need You to Keep
Scouting Alive in Frome
Our group has given hundreds of Frome children adventures they'll never forget. Help us make sure the next generation gets the same.
For many years, the 1st & 7th Frome 'Jubilee' Scout Group has been a proud part of the Frome community — running weekly sessions for Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, taking young people on incredible camping trips, teaching first aid and map reading, and helping children build confidence, friendships and skills that stay with them for life.
But today we need to be honest with you: we are urgently looking for more volunteers. Our dedicated team of leaders works incredibly hard, but we simply need more people to help us continue everything we do — and to grow.
Without new volunteers, some of our sections face real uncertainty. With your help, we can keep every section running and even expand what we offer.
What Roles Are Available?
There's something for everyone. Whether you can commit to a weekly session or just occasional support, your contribution matters enormously.
Beavers Helper
Support games, crafts and activities for ages 6–8 on Wednesday evenings
Cub Leader / Helper
Help lead adventures for 8–10½ year olds on Thursday evenings
Scout Leader
Lead our older young people aged 10½–14 on Monday evenings
Group Support
Admin, fundraising or hut maintenance — flexible hours, no weekly commitment needed
Event Volunteer
Help at camps, hikes, parades and special events throughout the year
When Do Sessions Run?
All sessions take place at our Scout Hut on Welshmill Lane, Frome.
Do I Need Experience?
Absolutely not. Many of our best volunteers came to us with no Scouting background at all — just enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go. Scouts UK provides comprehensive training and ongoing support, and our experienced leaders will be with you every step of the way.
- No prior Scouting experience required
- Full training provided and paid for by Scouts UK
- Flexible commitment — we work around your schedule
- Be part of a warm, supportive team
- Make a genuine, lasting difference to young people in Frome
- Develop your own skills in leadership, teamwork and communication
- Have fun — camping, hiking, activities and adventures included!
Why Does It Matter?
Scouting gives young people something increasingly rare: the chance to take on real challenges, make real friends, and discover what they're truly capable of. From earning their first badge to navigating a night hike, every experience builds the kind of resilience and confidence that lasts a lifetime.
Our group has been doing this for the Frome community for decades. Parents trust us with their children every week. The young people who come through our doors go on to be teachers, engineers, athletes, community leaders — and proud former Scouts.
We want to keep that going. But we need your help to do it.
